Groundwork (South's) Travelling Together Project funded by the Great Western Railway to support refugees and non-EU migrants in Bristol to settle into life in the UK by increasing their confidence using the rail network.
The project is running from October until the 31st of March 2025, where we are offering in-person and online 1x1 and group sessions of:
ESOL classes to improve participants’ English language skills with around 12 participants in each group, practicing English with each other and acting out the process of buying tickets, talking to train station staff, etc.
Support with understanding how to navigate a train station, and how to ask for help when needed. This will entail 2 days out to key cultural sites on the GWR network – demonstrating how to get a train (incl. reading timetables, planning journeys) to give participants practical experience in how to use the rail network.
Guidance on CV-writing and practice job interview questions for those who are currently seeking employment.
1 ‘meet the expert’ employment workshop (available online), promoted to all participants, with a member of the rail industry – promoting it as a positive potential career choice.
